During the time usually known as "declining years," his greatness only grew. John Paul II continues to inspire all who attend to his memory, and to the teaching he has left us. Especially inspiring to me and to all artists, is his
"Letter to Artists." I hope that you will read it, as it holds great spiritual and practical wisdom for all artists, be they visual, musical, or otherwise. In this image I wanted to capture something of the greatness of this spiritual leader, and to return to the subject of earlier portraits, who has left his mark on me. I believe that John Paul the Great knew that today, no area needs the Light of Christ as much as the arts. I am thankful to him for always showing us that Light in the example of his own life.
"Artists of the world, may your many different paths all lead to that infinite Ocean of beauty where wonder becomes awe, exhilaration, unspeakable joy.
May you be guided and inspired by the mystery of the Risen Christ, whom the Church in these days contemplates with joy." - John Paul the Great
