I was able to see this incredible statue in Washington D.C. while I was visiting for the March for Life 2006. The gargantuan bronze is stunning, and will probably not be back here in our lifetime. From Florence, the beautiful statues were about 40 to 50 ft. off the ground on the side of a cathedral, and yet they have the most intricate detail in places that passersby on the street would have been unable to see. In latin, on the hem of Thomas' garment, are the words he spoke to Christ: "My Lord and my God." On Christ's garment are the words "You believe because you have seen. More blessed are they who have not seen and yet believe." I worked on the drawing for about 3 and 1/2 hours. At one point someone came up and said "wow! That drawing is awesome!" I just pointed at the bronze and said "THAT'S awesome!"
