MICHAEL PHELPS: THE PHENOM

This will be the first installment in a series that will culminate a larger drawing to be entitled "Legends of Swimming." After art, my favorite pastime is also my favorite sport: Swimming. I swam for four years in college, and swimming continues to be my primary exercise today. I am already getting anxious for the 2008 Olympics to begin in Beijing, because Olympic swimming has always been important to me, mostly for the sheer inspiration of it. The 2000 Olympics aired when I was recovering from cancer, and the excitement of watching them encouraged me to return to the pool.
The final drawing, in which this installment takes up only a very small corner, will be dedicated to my favorite male swimmers (Gary Hall Jr, Alexandr Popov, Brendan Hansen, Aaron Piersol, Matt Biondi, Ian Thorpe, Mark Spitz, and Michael Phelps). I intend to follow this work eventually with one dedicated to great female swimmers like Jenny Thompson.
This drawing is of Michael Phelps, the phenom. He is, for lack of a better term, the greatest swimmer alive. I mean, is there anything this guy can't do? I know I enjoyed watching him in 2004, and can't wait to see what he does in Beijing. If you don't know the kind of swimmer that Phelps is, watch this:
