Father Terry as Hermano Pedro of Guatemala

This is a drawing for a friend whose parents have a great devotion to a secular Franciscan who became a saint in Guatemala. His name was Hermano Pedro, and he had a great love for the poor and for "Lady Poverty," and worked tirelessly to alieve the suffering of orphans, the sick, and his fellow poor. He began a religious congregation known as the Bethlehemite brothers and sisters. Brother Pedro's spiritual meditations focused especially on the Christ Child.
In preparing for this work, I wanted to find a "living" representation of Brother Pedro's love for the people he served, and thought immediately of this image of Father Terry, CFR. He is shown here comforting a Honduran woman. I thought that this image fittingly captured Hermano Pedro's love for the poor. I also made a copy without the halo, as I thought Father Terry would appreciate a copy of the drawing that is less flattering. Pax et Bonum!

  1. I'm sure Fr. Terry would appreciate the less flattering copy, but everyone knows that he's already a saint! You're art is fantastic, Dave.
